Gout is a medical condition that normally results in hot and painful joints. Joints become painful.

The condition of gout is typically laughed at being as it is generally associated with rich living, however it is not a product of rich living. It is a very painful disorder for anybody who experiences it. Gout can be caused by high protein diets, but that is not the only cause.

Gout is most common in men, and is most likely to occur between 40 and 60 years old, it’s more common if the man is overweight. Women can also suffer from gout, although it is much rarer.

Gout causes acute arthritis attacks in joints, especially in the big toes. If gout is not treated properly then the attacks will become longer in time and start to become more generalised on certain areas.

The symptoms of gout for most patients involve one hot, red, swollen and painful joint, however in some cases the symptoms of gout can include more than one joint that is affected.

Gout occurs because there is too much uric acid in the blood stream. Uric acid is a naturally occurring chemical which should be removed by the kidneys. If too much uric acid is left in the blood then crystals can form, if these crystals enter the joint they can trigger an inflammation.

Acute gouty arthritis is the form of arthritis that attacks the joints due to gout. There is help at hand, the treatment of gout involves three stages, firstly the affects are taken care of. The arthritic affects are treated similarly to other forms of arthritis by using non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, next the individual is urged to adapt their lifestyle. Lifestyle can have a big impact on gout, if the patient is overweight he will be advised to lose weight. The last step is not always needed; it looks at dealing with the excess uric acid in the blood.

Sometimes gout reoccurs, but normally the best cure for gout is simply changing your lifestyle.
